Is This Charming Maryland Inn the Perfect Seaside Getaway?

Updated: Jun 10

When I set an ambitious travel schedule for 2024, I knew it would be a different kind of year. And when I added a 10-day trip to Maryland to pet sit for our daughter, I feel like I’ve barely been home at all.

But it’s been a great opportunity to put my money where my mouth is and get out to see the world!

Spring comes earlier in Maryland, so it was nice to enjoy 80-90 degree days in April. The trees and flowers were blooming. And we had the doors and windows of the Chesapeake Bay townhouse open to get the fresh air.

We like to visit St. Michaels when we’re in town. It’s a quaint village on the water that’s reminiscent of many small New England towns.

This visit we finally took time to tour the Inn at Perry Cabin, a Virtuoso property on the Miles River that feeds the Chesapeake.

It’s a historic property that’s grown over time. It has all the grandeur of a classic eastern shore maritime manor and offers an opportunity for an active getaway with a round of golf, tennis, bocce and pickleball on the immaculately manicured grounds.

You can ride bikes, enjoy the pool, visit the Maritime Museum next door, or simply enjoy the gardens, There's a small fleet of boats that will take you out on the river. And there’s a gym and lovely spa where you can relax the day away.

The Junior Suite we saw in a newer wing was spacious and comfortable. As an older property, each room has its own character. But the upkeep and attention to detail that’s obvious throughout the property ensures you can’t go wrong wherever you stay.

Did you see the movie Wedding Crashers? The main event was filmed on the Inn’s lawn and inspired one of the bar’s specialty cocktails of the same name. Another specialty cocktail is Don’t Give Up the Ship – the Inn’s official mantra.

We’ve become fans of the Belmond family of hotels. We visited their La Samanna property in St. Martin. It was breathtaking! One unique highlight was the elaborately built wine and rum cellar that actually made my husband gasp as he entered!

There were similar wine cabinets at the Inn at Perry Cabin and we learned that it was previously owned by Belmond. Small world! Now it’s owned by the same company that owns the Chatham Bars Inn.

Bottom line: The Inn at Perry Cabin is an easy getaway from DC, NY, Philly and even New England. It’s a perfect spot to relax for a long weekend.

Reach out if you’d like to look at it more closely. We had a lovely time with the Reservation Manager and will make sure you’re treated well.
